Gátur - Hnefatafl Puzzle Tool

Gátur (Old Norse for "riddles") is an interactive Hnefatafl puzzle player and puzzle maker which uses a full implementation of the competitive "Copenhagen" Hnefatafl ruleset.

What is Hnefatafl?

Hnefatafl is an ancient boardgame played in Scandinavia (think Vikings) before Chess arrived in Europe. It is a member of the Tafl family of games, which also includes variants such as Tablut and Alea Evangelii.

Gátur uses the Copenhagen Hnefatafl rules which are considered to be a competitive ruleset - i.e. the gap between win-lose rate for Attackers and Defenders is smaller than in many other rulesets. If you are curious, a quick internet search for 'Copenhagen Hnefatafl rules' will show you at least two results for this ruleset.
